I spent a long time looking at reviews and at TVs in shops before purchasing this gem (18 months of procrastination to be exact).br /br /The styling is nice as it is simple, clean hard lines, nice gloss and a unique (but not overly grotesque) slight recess in the middle, under the lovely glowing Vizio logo.br /br /Many reviews mentioned that the remote was annoying as you need to use a dash between the numbers to even get to ABC (7-1), Fox (5-1)etc. It is strange that they set it this way and it clearly is an oversight by Vizio. Another complaint is the PIP (also mentioned in many reviews). It is not a true PIP so to speak. You can only switch between a chosen source and the Composite source – which is insane. Thus you cannot use PIP with: HDMI and TV, TV and TV, HDMI and HDMI…. etc etc etc. Making it virtually useless. Anyway, these are the only two complaints and for the price not an issue – for me.br /br /Picture is beautiful! I am only using a new aerial (fixed to my fire escape) but the quality on the digital network channels is amazing. Smooth Motion is nice but it does give a slight soap-like look to shows. That coupled with the fantastic definition actually take some of the nice mystique away from TVs and movies as you can tell everything is filmed on a set. But hey, that’s just reality.br /br /Sound is good enough for me. Crisp but pretty devoid of any bass.br /br /I use my PS3 with it so COD Modern Warfare 2 is absolutely mind blowing on it. Have not tried any Blue Ray movies yet but DVD up-scaling (feature of the PS3) make the DVDs look great.br /br /Overall I am very happy with this TV. I haven’t seen many TVs that are as clear except for some of the new Samsung LEDs. Buy with confidence.br /br /Disclaimer: I bought this TV refurbished from Ebay for 1 (incl. shipping and no tax)and not from Amazon.com.br /br /br /br /

When I purchased the Vizio XVT series tv I was skeptical of a 9.00 price tag and so many features. Could it really be as good as advertised? For the most part the answer is yes but there are a few negatives. My rating of 4 stars heavily takes price into account. Here is my review:br /br /DESIGN: Personally I think the xvt series Vizio televisions are as nice as anything else on the market. It features a nice thin glossy black bezel with a fairly simple accent along the bottom that works nicely. The VIZIO logo on the bottom stays lit which really doesn’t bother me. The tv is very thin which is nice but it feels somewhat flimsy on the stand which does not rotate. It has enough connections for the average user which are all logically laid out on the rear. br /br /BLACKS/WHITES: The weakest aspect of this tv is that the black level is very poor. It is better with dynamic contrast turned on but then you have to deal with sudden noticeable shifts in brightness. If this is the most important thing to you then this tv will not satisfy. Otherwise, the whites, overall contrast and shadow detail are all excellent.br /br /COLOR: This tv has some of the most realistic colors of any lcd that I have seen out of the box with no calibration necessary. The colors are not only accurate but they really pop and come alive. br /br /MOTION: The 120 hz feature is very effective on this tv. CNET wasn’t impressed by Vizio’s implementation but I have seen virtually no artifacts from it. If you leave it set to precision and set the motion smoothing to low it does a great job.br /br /VIEWING EFFECTS: The matte screen is very good at resisting reflections and brightness in the room. The viewing angle is good as long as you are looking at the screen directly centered vertically. If you look down or up at it things go horribly wrong and the picture washes out.br /br /SOUND: The sets speakers put out great sound. If you are looking for virtual surround, look elsewhere, even with the feature turned on there is no 3d effect. Sound is clear and powerful though.br /br /REMOTE: The remote is comfortable but flimsy. It would not accept programming for most of my devices but I only use it to access the menus anyway.br /br /CONCLUSION: For the money this tv packs in the features and does it well. There are some negatives… black level, the fact that settings cannot be adjusted for inputs independently etc. On the positive side there are more preset video modes than almost any other tv that I have seen and without any calibration a satisfactory picture can be achieved. Standard definition also looks as good on this tv as any lcd that I have seen. DVD’s have an almost bluray effect if well mastered. Another plus is an attractive and simple menu system. For all but the most finicky of viewers this is a great set at this price.
