I bought these and 2 other OPTEKA lenses for my Fuji 9600. So, as you can see, I’m not a professional photographer. And also, there aren’t many lenses out there for my camera. So if you’re not a pro, and maybe you aren’t because you’re considering these lenses, they are not bad. They are very good, in the sense that you’ll have lenses to put on your camera, play a little with some wide angle, some tele, some macro. What else would you want. I’m happy, I’m not a pro-wannabe that complains at this kind of products. They’re fine for the kind users they’re aimed to.

Very handy lens kit when you have to take a picture of city or nature from the long distance. Polarizing filter will remove reflections of dust from atmosphere. But full power you can achieve only when the sun located from 90 degrees from the object, so the best time to use it is evening and morning hours. It also makes sky real blue, and you can remove reflections from water, while taking pics of fishes. UV filter is just a protection. It might help with lens glare, but don’t expect much from it.

The Opteka slide copier works well with the Fuji Finepix, requiring only a supplied 58mm/52mm adapter ring to connect to the camera’s lens. The 35mm slide adapter is a little cumbersome, particularly in its vertical axis, which is difficult to lock. It’s also difficult to avoid bumping either the zoom lens or slide adapter while adjusting one or the other, but perhaps practice makes perfect. You’ll need a bright light (preferably sunlight) because the length of lens and adapter makes this a slow combination, and will need to experiment with ISO/aperture/shutter speed settings because simply putting the camera on Auto will not give you the best results. The relative darkness of the adapter means it can be difficult to see the edges of the frame, but again practice will help. Fortunately the Fuji has plenty of adjustments readily available and I used them all – ISO between 80 and 200 depending on the contrast of the original 35mm slide; either A (aperture priority) or S (shutter priority) depending on the depth of field required; and the metering – which is the most important of all. Spot metering (anticlockwise position on knob) is accurate but your original slides must be evenly-exposed for it to be of use: center-weighted (center position) is usually best but doesn’t handle bright areas outside the center of the slide: average weighting over the screen (clockwise position) usually works when the others don’t, but can come up with odd results if you use it for every slide. Colour temperature is very important and you’ll need to set white balance on the camera before starting. Having done all this, is it worth it? I’m not sure – my first attempts were more contrasty than I’d expected – which is always a problem of contrast ratio differences between emulsion and digital images. I can correct the results with Photoshop, but there is also a lack of fine definition which is probably due to the sheer amount of optics involved in the process. I need to experiment some more, because I didn’t use the Raw TIFF setting for the camera which should make a difference. Overall this is a useful gadget but don’t expect to see results that match your original slides.

Opteka specializes in manufacturing special optical devices for the past several years, would like to take this opportunity to introduce a newly developed product called the “HD² Infrared X-Ray Effect See-Through Multi-Coated Filter”. This filter makes it possible for you to see images that are normally invisible to the human eye. It sounds like science-fiction but it isn’t; this fantastic new product has been developed using the most highly advanced optical technologies available. This filter will filter out 99% of light seen by the naked eye only allowing infrared light through so that technically the naked eye can see 100% black when the filter is in place. Multi-coating prevents light reflection, ghost light…etc, making images clearer and sharper. On your digital camcorder, turn the “Nightshot” function on – the naked eye cannot pick up the high contrast black, so with the infrared filter and Nightshot combination, for example, it will help you see in the images provided, that we ‘accidentally’ spilt some permanent ink on this document and the text is now impossible to read. This filter will work with the Kodak Z812IS camera with the filter and lens (52mm Lens / Filter Adapter for Kodak EasyShare Z612, Z712, Z812, Z1012, Z8612 IS Digital Camera) adapter. To take pictures with it you will need to either adjust the camera settings through the manual mode, or simply set the camera to low ISO mode and turn the flash off. For best results I also recommend setting the camera to black and white instead of color as not doing so will generate a purplish image.br /br /As advertised, this filter will filter out long distance hazes and take stunning landscape pictures.
